On Nov 23rd, 2011, Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon visited Kathmandu University to talk about Millennium Development Goals.
Program was conducted by Prof. Dr. Sanjay Nath Khanal of Kathmandu University
Welcome speech is given by Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, VC of Kathmandu University
Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon started the presentation with two questions to think about:
1) What do you want to achieve?
2) What have you done for others dignity?
According to him, there are challenges like waves, but if we work together we can overcome it.
8 Millennium Development Goals
Green indicated good progress, Yellow indicates ok and Red indicates there is progress but lagging behind schedule.
Nepal is doing good in Maternal Health
Talked about mortality rate and income.
Showed how Norway reached current state by example of his family history.
One of his positive remark was "Nepal has achieved in 20 year that Norway took 40 years to achieve"
His Mongolia Visit
There children from waste management site is encourage to study and attend school.
His next visit was at Guatemala
There food problem was solved by creating women group
This time he is in Nepal
Micro Credit project successfully running
Maternity service center providing good service
Female Health Volunteers are main reason of Maternity service success
Also visited x combat person training center
His other initiative
A Child sharing his dignity story
A lady sharing her story for the first time in life
After presentation there was Q/A session moderated by Dr. Mahesh Banskota, Dean School of Arts, Kathmandu University
Questions
1) With all changes in the world, Is it worth to continue with the same goal? What is coming up next after 2015?
Ans: yes definitely, they are thinking of whats next.
2) Negative side of Microcredit, Women are more in pressure to work at home as well as generate income, that income is used by men. Is it happening good?
Ans: Microcredit has shown good result so it will continue
3) Global partnership at the bottom of the list. Why?
Ans: List is not based on priority.
4) What should be done so that men will accept gender equality?
Ans:
His final remark was "Don't wait for some initiative to start to work for you. It has to start from within."
